Whether it’s the books or the movies when you first lay your eyes on Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore- he’ll seem like one of the good guys. He’s helping Harry fight Voldemort and he comes off as nothing short of a friendly character in the first few books at least. But, there are a lot of things he has done in his past and continually did during Harry’s time at Hogwarts that questions our moral compass- is Dumbledore really a good guy? Here’s Why Albus Dumbledore Is One Of The Worst Characters Ever:
He Lies To Harry:
Dumbledore knew that Harry had to die eventually. Maybe he knew Harry could bounce back with the Horcrux inside him but even that had to be an untested theory. The reason is, that thing did not happen before. Even then, he was completely willing to bring Harry up and let him go to his death without even telling him why. It may not have made sense to tell all that to an 11-year-old boy, but as years passed, Harry matured quicker than his peers. In fact, because of what he had been through until that point, Harry grew to be brave and selfless. But, did that influence Dumbledore to reveal the truth? Not at all.
He Was In Good Company With Grindelwald:
Dumbledore was hanging around with the darkest wizard before Voldemort made his presence felt. He says it himself that he was blinded, but it’s Dumbledore. How can a wizard as clever as Dumbledore be blinded? Unless he shared the same interests as Gellert Grindelwald. It took the death of his sister to realize that Grindelwald maybe a bad guy after all. Believing Some Of Grindelwald’s Ideals:
J.K.Rowling showed us some exchange between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. And that has us wondering if Dumbledore only loves Grindelwald or also agrees with his ideas. He truly believed that magical people were better than the non-magical people. It’s hard to believe that Grindelwald persuaded him to believe all that because it is a very big issue. So maybe he wasn’t thinking of murdering every Muggle and Muggle-born wizards and witches like Voldemort but, at the core, their ideologies weren’t that different. And “Magic is Might” is nothing short of prejudice and discrimination. Yet another reason Why Albus Dumbledore Is One Of The Worst Characters Ever.
Handling Harry’s Pseudo-Possession Poorly:
Harry was being literally possessed by Voldemort. The Dark Lord had been slowly edging his way into Harry’s head and making him go crazy. He was influencing Harry’s emotions to be like his own. And what does Dumbledore do knowing Harry is being driven crazy by Voldemort? Nothing at all.
Responsible For Sirius’ Death:
Sirius loved Harry like his own child, everyone knows that. And so, he would do anything to ensure Harry’s safety. So what does Dumbledore do? He locks Sirius up in the only place that gave Sirius the most mental anguish- House Black! Locked up in there with all the bad memories of his childhood, Sirius presumably grew more anxious by the second. And that ultimately pulled the trigger on Sirius’ life.
Letting House-Elf Enslavement Continue:
Dumbledore offered to pay them a tiny amount for their service and gave them bare minimum work vacations. So that instantly makes Dumbledore a Saint, does it? No, the house-elves were still slaves and Dumbledore did very little from his position to change that.
