The Science of Cellular Transport Technology (CTT)®
Liquid I.V.’s core innovation is based on Cellular Transport Technology (CTT)®, an oral rehydration solution (ORS) framework originally developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to treat severe dehydration.
How CTT Works in the Gut:
- Sodium-Glucose Co-Transport: In your small intestine, there are specialized transport pumps called SGLT1 co-transporters.
- The Molecular Ratio: These pumps require a precise ratio of sodium + glucose (sugar) + potassium to activate.
- Passive Osmosis: When glucose and sodium bind to the co-transporter simultaneously, it creates an osmotic force that pulls water directly across the intestinal lining into the bloodstream.
This co-transport mechanism bypasses the slower digestive tract absorption of plain water, allowing rapid cellular rehydration.
Electrolyte & Sugar Breakdown: Why Pure Water Isn’t Enough
Drinking massive quantities of plain water when severely dehydrated can actually dilute your blood’s sodium concentration (a dangerous condition known as hyponatremia).
Liquid I.V. solves this by providing:
– 500mg Sodium: Replaces essential salt lost through sweat and physical exertion.
– 370mg Potassium: Prevents muscle cramping and balances cellular fluid levels.
– 11g Cane Sugar / Dextrose: Serves as the active glucose key to open SGLT1 co-transporters for fast absorption.
