Apple’s Talking With Volkswagen For Making Self-Driving Employee Shuttles

Remember Apple’s ambitions of a self-driving car project? Sure you do. They were right on track trying to negotiate with German automakers, and the list includes BMW & Mercedes as well, for developing an all-electric self-driving car. However, things didn’t go to plan as Apple would have liked and the negotiations with BMW & Mercedes failed because they didn’t like the idea of Apple taking control of the design of the vehicle and the data produced. Have no fear though. Apple’s Talking With Volkswagen For Making Self-Driving Employee Shuttles:

The current idea:

Apple is looking to partner with Volkswagen and turn the existing T6 Transporter vans into self-driven shuttles for Apple’s employees. Now, we know since last year that Apple has a car division with the codename Project Titan. They were aiming to make both the hardware and software for a new autonomous vehicle. Then they would shift gears and focus in the near-term on the shuttle service known as PAIL, for Polo Alto to Infinite Loop. According to a report, however, the entire Apple car team may be desperate to get the shuttle service off the ground while there also may not be any plans for the future. This may be a suggestion that Apple’s ambitions for Project Titan have been tarnished. And in a report, The Times has claimed that hundreds of people left the division in a couple of years since their expansion to more than 1,000 employees.

Apple’s prototype self-driving cars are still spotted driving around Palo Alto. The company is also commanding a fleet of Lexus RX450h SUVs for testing purposes. They are also registered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles than both Uber and Alphabet-owned Waymo.

So, it might be too early to count Apple out of this self-driving game. You were reading “Apple’s Talking With Volkswagen For Making Self-Driving Employee Shuttles”. Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.
