The scandal which permanently destroyed the reputation of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein may just be widening its scope. And the next target could well be actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck. Much like other prominent figures of Hollywood, Affleck publicly denounced Harvey and declared himself “angry and saddened”. He even went onto say that reading the detail of the accusations had made him “sick”. However, when Affleck spoke out against Weinstein, it seemed to inspire for sharing their accounts of harassment from Affleck himself. And there are even stories told that prove his involvement in other men’s harassment of women. Let’s take a look at The Shady Life Of Ben Affleck:
Anna North said that when one woman comes forward with their story of sexual assault, she will inspire a domino effect. As such, more women are feeling safe about coming forward with their own stories.
Affleck’s Controversial Past:
There is a reason why Affleck has become a secondary target after the fallout of Weinstein’s scandal. Weinstein would help Casey Affleck, throughout much of last year successfully campaigning for the Oscar. And stories eventually emerged of Casey facing two sexual harassment lawsuits in the past. Ben would appear at parties and premieres supporting Casey and trying to whip up support for his brother for Casey’s Best Actor run. However, he surely never made any public statement to condemn Casey for his alleged sexual harassment. And people were quick to point that out; which you can see here.
To make matters worse, Affleck spent his own career quite close to Weinstein. In fact, Weinstein was the one who produced Ben’s breakout movie Good Will Hunting and has collaborated on multiple occasions afterward. Affleck was publicly ambivalent regarding their relationship stating, “They’re a nightmare to make a deal with,” he would tell Vanity Fair in 2004. However, Affleck would continue working with Harvey on projects like Shakespeare in Love and Jersey Girl. You are reading “The Shady Life Of Ben Affleck”.
But according to Rose McGowan, who indirectly implied that Harvey had violated her, Affleck was fully aware of what Weinstein was up to.
And it seems that Affleck also has a history of publicly groping women under the guise of frat-boy humor. Which we can see here:
In this segment, Ben Affleck was 31 at the time while Hilarie Burton was 21. You can check out the incident here.
“I was a kid,” she wrote on Twitter while adding, “I had to laugh back then so I wouldn’t cry.”
Let’s look more into The Shady Life Of Ben Affleck. In another video, Affleck pulled an interviewer, Anne-Marie Losique onto his lap and made comments about her breasts while filming a 2004 segment for a Canadian TV series. While Losique may not have minded that, there are certainly others who did:
TV writer Jen Statsky alongside author Annamarie Tendler both confess that Affleck has groped multiple women at a Golden Globes party back in 2014. “He walked by me, cupped my butt and pressed his finger into my crack,” Tendler wrote on Twitter and added, “I guess he tried to play it like he was politely moving me out of the way and oops touched my butt instead of my lower back?” This emerging narrative in regards to Affleck hasn’t been met with surprise but resigned acceptance and disgust by many.
