The Hottest Game In The Market: God Of War(2018)

The beloved gaming franchise, God of War, splashed onto the scene this year on April 20. The God of War series is over a decade old. It started back in 2005 and wowed everyone from the beginning. And after a long hiatus, the series is back to entertain us once again. Here’s a review of The Hottest Game In The Market: God Of War(2018):

The Original Trilogy:

On March 22, 2005, a certain game was released for the Play Station 2, arguably the most successful home console. It was based on Greek mythology. With amazing gameplay and an immersive story, the first god of war game was an instant fan favorite. The hack and slash gameplay were satisfying. The story of Kratos, a mere soldier overcoming great obstacles to fight and kill a god for revenge was endearing. The game made a great impression on all gamers. But for its extremely violent nature, it also sparked controversy.

The creators knew from the start that it was going to be a huge success, so right after they finished the game they started working on a sequel. And on March 17, 2007, God of War II was released for the Play Station 2. It was a definitely a successor to the original. With more violence, improved gameplay and a great continuation of the story; it was also a massive success.

The god of war series was planned to be a trilogy from the start. So after eagerly waiting for 3 years, God of War III came out on March 16, 2010, for the new Play Station 3. The third game brought on improved graphical quality using the new hardware, the gameplay was improved enabling switching various weapons on the fly. And the epic tale of Kratos was put to an end. All in all the god of war trilogy was a massive success.

A Brand New Start:

Now, after 8 whole years, our favorite rage-filled protagonist has come back in the reboot/continuation. After much anticipation on April 20, 2018, God of War (2018) for the Play Station 4 reached the store shelves. After demolishing Olympus in the original trilogy, this time Kratos is set out to conquer the Norse mythology. He has begun his journey with an unexpected ally, his son Atreus. The six out of nine realms of Norse mythology is open to being explored in this game.

The game starts with the death of Kratos’ second wife, Faye. Her death wish was that her ashes to be spread at the highest peak of the nine realms. Together with his son Atreus, Kratos sets out to fulfill her wish. In their journey, they meet various supporting characters and many mythological creatures and gods to defeat to reach their destination. This time Kratos doesn’t have the familiar Blades of Chaos. Instead, he is carrying the Ice-infused Leviathan Axe. In the journey in addition to stomping various enemies, gods, and other obstacles, Kratos must also overcome the struggles of parenthood. The game creators have creatively depicted Kratos’ struggle to become a good father to Atreus.

The new God of War game has different gameplay from the original trilogy. The game has been adapted to the new era and likings of gamers now. It has more RPG elements, a third person camera, and new hack and slash gameplay. Resource management, attaining better equipment, a skill tree etc. are parts of the new game. Even with the changes, God of War (2018) retains the feel and excitement of the original games. And from its release, it has been gaining much praise and appreciation.
